Oregonzola - 1/4 Wheel
A nod to Rogue Creamery’s Italian heritage, Oregonzola blue cheese was developed by Ignazio Vella in the late 1990’s. The smooth and yielding texture of the paste and clearly defined blue veins are reminiscent of the great Gorgonzola but the bouquet of fruit, sweet cream and tangy flavors set it apart as an American original.
“I often enjoyed listening to Ig describe his outreach to family in Italy to create a blue that is a tribute to his father Gaetano, ‘Tom’. The blue mold in this cheese was brought from Italy, and Oregonzola is the only cheese in the US using it. He always gave a proud chuckle about his daughter, Chickie, naming it. Oregonzola is sweet and savory, and reminiscent of classic Italian blue cheese with the flavor of the state that Tom so loved to retreat to for fly fishing and cards.”
